YOUTH PROTECTION PROGRAM
WHAT IS FIRST ROBOTICS?
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a program which incorporates students from grades K-12 at a variety of levels. FIRST's mission is to inspire young people to become leaders in the fields of science and technology in the future, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, technology and business skills, inspire innovation, and foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership. FIRST shows students of every age that science, technology, and problem-solving are not only fun and rewarding, but are also proven paths to a successful career.
FRC is typically geared toward students in 9th through 12th grade. Once the season starts, teams have six weeks to design, build, and program a large robot.
FIRST is striving to create an environment in which team members can grow, learn, and have fun with minimal risk of injury. FIRST strives to inform everyone involved in its programs of its Youth Protection Program (FIRST YPP) and related resources, and to provide assistance in meeting the YPP's standards. FIRST maintains a Youth Protection Department (FIRST YPD) at its Manchester, New Hampshire headquarters for the purpose of fulfilling its commitment to protecting youth.
FTC is for students in 7th through 12th grade. Teams must design, build, and program a small robot for competition.
FLL is for students in elementary and middle school. Teams must use a Mindstorm kit and Legos to design, build, and program a small robot.
Jr.FLL is for children ages 6-9. Jr.FLL captures young children's curiosity and directs it toward discovering the wonders of science and technology.
